The Good, the Bad and the Bum
Which would you like first? - ok the bad news first.
I am still an unemployed Irish bum. The job market is still very slow and employers here (as everywhere) are hesitant to hire - period. Even more so to hire an expat when they can hire a local for less $$$ and avoid having to process visa paperwork where they need to justify why a local can't do the same job.
The good news is the missus has landed a job and assuming the visa paperwork goes thru smoothly she'll be gainfully employed as of end of next month. As her 'dependent' I also qualify for a work visa so I'll be more marketable (he said optimistically) for prospective employers since they won't need to go thru the visa paperwork headache.
So what can we do to pass the time before at least one of us rejoins the rat race?
Save money? Lay low? Enter politics? - HELL NO! We're off on another backpacking extravaganza starting in Indonesia and seeing how long we can drag it out i.e. stretch the budget.
So stay tuned and travel vicariously with nomadic Paddy in B.A. as he tries to notch up a few more countries and push the envelope and maybe break a few records for how long you can bum around the planet.Tags: ..Good News Bad News..

Lucky!
LOL, I love you guys!
:)
Three more weeks and I'll be off traveling too. Woot! Have fun, Paddy, don't cause any international incidents.
Jesus man that's some trust fund you must have to sustain you. I've been out of work for three weeks and already hitting the panic button (mind I'm trying to save the redundancy money for the 'big trip'). Good luck . and you know you can almost swim from Bali to Darwin and then it's just 2 days on the Ghan to Adelaide and another 15 hours on the train to Sydney . . .just sayin'!
Jeez, you're not off on your travels again? Surely there can't be much of the world left to see? Look forward to your on-the-road chronicles.
Good news about the job for the missus, and your work visa. She must have the magic touch.
Keep going before you have to go back to driving a desk woohoo!
Enjoy Indonesia. I have to go off to Uruguay to do you know what with the visa.
Can't wait to read about Indo...scout out the good surf spots for me will ya?
Shopping trip to Ikea doesn't really compare. Hope you have a great trip and that the employment prospects improve for your return.
i hear people in india make money by standing next to the expressway into the city and hiring themselves out as one way passengers so rich people driving to work can use the special lanes for more than one person in a car. maybe you could do that.

I will be studying Spanish at the Universidad de Palermo March - July 2013. I don't want to be very far from the university. Don't want to spend more than USD500. Preferably not in a shady area. What are some good areas and what are housing options? Apartment... Stay with a family...hostel... I'm completely up for exploring my options! Thanks for your help!
@Mariel: pls post your Q's in the Cost of Living post - thanks
