Travel Hacking - Tip #12 – Auto Foursquare Check-in = 100,000+ points/miles
As I mentioned here, this is an easy 100,000+ points but since some reward sponsors are getting wise to the hacks e.g. the gmail hack, I recommend you take a few precautions and play it safe by opening some new accounts (which I will detail below). It adds a little extra setup time to this hack but this should minimize the chance of being flagged, as I was, for flouting the T&C for earning ‘too many miles’.
This is actually a combo hack which uses 1.) The previously mentioned TopGuest Foursquare hack with the 2.) Foursquare spoof location hack and 3.) a tip from blog reader Jim to automate the process with a Foursquare add-on app called Auto4SQ which lets you auto check-in on Foursquare whenever / wherever. Once you set this automatic routine up, your miles and points will auto post i.e. you don’t even need to check-in on Foursquare. THIS IS HUGE!
Before you start the hack you need to do some prep work
PREP STEPS:
A. Install Google Chrome as a browser as you will use a cool feature it has called “incognito mode” to prevent your pc remembering who you are – Important - since you will be switching between multiple accounts!
B. Sign-up for AwardWallet if you haven’t already to keep track of your existing and new reward accounts you may need to set up during the hack
C. Since the gmail hack may not work with this hack you will need to sign up for at least six new email accounts to get the full 100K points – gmail is my fav so I will assume this is what you will use below (feel free to use another). For now just sign up for one extra account as I’m sure you want to test the hack (if prompted for telephone # during the gmail sign-up just leave it blank) – Keep a note of the new email account id’s & pw’s. To be safe, avoid very similar email addresses like emailbob1@gmail.com and emailbob2@gmail.com
D. Sign-up for a reward account (if you don’t already have one) with the following travel partners. United, Best Western, Hilton, Priority Rewards, Virgin Elevate, Wyndham. There are a few more options with Topguest but not worth it in my opinion.
Repeat this step for each friend/family member to multiply the bonus many times. For now just try one account. Record the ff#’s with AwardWallet so you can track your bonus miles.
After the prep steps above - You need to follow yet another 10 easy set-up steps per rewards partner. You only need to do this once per mileage / hotel account and then the points will post everyday without you needing to do ANYTHING! (pretty cool eh! – Read On..)
IMPORTANT: All steps below occur in 1 session of the Chrome Browser using new tabs for each step. To avoid cookie issues use a clean browser session e.g. Chrome Incognito mode. After completing all steps – close Chrome and start again.
1. Sign in to one of the new gmail accounts you set up above in the prep steps
2. Sign-up for a new foursquare account using your real name and a new gmail account
3. Confirm/Validate your new foursquare account in your gmail
4. Sign up for a new account with TopGuest (except for United - see note below) for one of the following partners using the new gmail a/c but use a bogus (made up) name to avoid being flagged for multiple sign-ups (they seem to check for duplicate names and gmail hack email addresses)
(Wyndham have 2 rewards programs with 2 Loyalty member numbers- The one to use is Wyndham by Request which starts with 2 alphas i.e. letters AND you need to check in at a Wingate by Wyndham hotel only) - Update: Note some say the Wyndham Rewards # works also and potentially for a double dip
5. Validate your new Topguest account in gmail (except for United see above)
6. Add one of the partner frequent flyer id’s to Topguest by clicking 'Programs' then 'Add Member id' and here you add just one of your Frequent Flyer or Hotel id#
7. Click ‘Get Points’ in Topguest and then ‘Points on Foursquare’ and ‘Connect with Foursquare’ (links to the foursquare id you are already logged into above)
8. Open m.foursquare.com (mobile version) and fake your location to a partner location e.g. google the zip code of 'Best Western LAX Airport' and choose option '7. Change location' and enter that zip code - then choose option '4. Search venues' and choose the above location then option '2. Check-in'
9. Open auto4sq.com and select 'login in using foursquare' using the account (above) - your latest check-in will now show up in auto4sq under the venue drop down
10. Schedule your daily check-ins - best to add a few to mix it up a little in terms of check-in times to avoid attention
Once complete - Close your browser and repeat all the above steps adding a new Topguest, email and foursquare account for each reward partner.
Congrats! – you will now earn 275+ miles/points automatically on a daily basis without doing anything! 275 x 365 days = 100,000+ points per year per person!
Note: Topguest seems to miss at least 1 or 2 foursquare logins per month for me – YMMV!

I've had great success with this, thanks for the post!
Did you have any issue with abusing the T&C when using just one account? The limit of automated check-ins on auto4sq forced me to use the same check-in time every day instead of making it semi-random. Do you think this will cause me to get flagged?
@Matt: Glad you like it. Topguest don't seem to be consistent with what is considered abuse of T&C. Another reader is only using one account and not changing the times and has not had any issues. I decided to play safe and set up multiple accounts just in case
Hi Paddy,
You said we needed at least 6 gmail accounts and 6 foursquare accounts and 6 TopGuest accounts - is for these 6 travel partners: United, Best Western, Hilton, Priority Rewards, Virgin Elevate, Wyndham?
so that means 1 gmail & 1 foursquare account & 1 topguest account gets associated with let's say United.
Then gmail account #2 & foursquare account #2 and topGuest account #2 gets associated with "Best Western", and so on and so forth?
I can't link all 6 travel partners into 1 gmail & 1 foursquare account?
@ Anony: yes gmail a/c #1 with 4sq acc 1 with Topguest #1 as you described
The email you use on the rewards partners can be the same but the email on the 4sq has to be different
Hello Paddy,
Do you think it would be possible to create 6 different gmail accounts with 6 different foursquare accounts with 6 different topGuest accounts and have them all be "United Airlines" and then have all 6 be associated with the same United Account # (#4568435 for example) so that I would get 6x50 = 300 United Airline miles per day??? Or would they start red-flagging the accounts and notice that one United account # keeps getting all the miles?
Could I have multiple four square accounts (same name) and multiple topguest accounts (different names) and have all 4 of them linked to the same United account?
@ Anony: You can't link a United account to foursquare account more than once
@ John: You can't link a United account to foursquare account more than once
I just tested my first accounts set to Hilton. I picked the Lax hilton and it says I got 9 pts. I checked my Hilton account and 50 signup pts went in today. How do you pick the locations? I've never used foursquare before. Do I pick any location? Do different hotels etc. have different points? You said that comes to 275 pts a day. Is that total spread over the 6 partners? Not 100,000 just to Hilton per say? Thanks
@ Anony: you must pick a Hilton Doubletree property (google one and use step 8 above)100K is total for 6 partners
Hmm... somehow I just did this without opening a Topguest account. Is this a problem? I tried it with united and went to your united topguest link and it asked for my freq flyer # but never asked my name or to create a Topguest account. I checked in and got a confirmation email from United. Is actually opening a Topguest account important?
@ Jo: That's correct - You don't need to create a Topguest account for United - they have that separate link that you used so you should be fine
Wow Patty, this is hardcore travel hacking! Thanks for the post... I'm looking forward to results :)
Btw based on your own experience with this hack, do you recommend
setting up different United/IHG/Hilton/Wyndham/Best Western/Club
Hotel/Voila accounts along with associated different email addresses
and check in only once a day at a nearby (spoofed) location?
Or to check in several times per partner in a few different (spoofed)
locations a day with a single email/United/IHG/Hilton/Wyndham/Best
Western/Club Hotel/Voila series of accounts?
Do the partners even credit 50 points per check per day as long as the
locations are different?
Btw two questions if I may:
- Does AA, US Airways and Delta participate in the TopGuest program
like United, and if so what are the associated direct URLs to sign-up?
- Do you know if any of the foreign airlines (Air France/KLM, Alaska,
Singapore Airlines, Thai Airlines...) participate in the TopGuest
program like United, and if so what are the associated direct URLs to
sign-up?
Thanks.
The email address associated with the reward partner (Airline / Hotel) doesn't really matter. You can use the same email for United, Hilton etc)
The email address associated with Foursquare should be different but the gmail hack works with Foursquare so technically you could sign-up for multiple foursquare accounts with the same email address.
I got busted for opening up multiple Topguest accounts using the gmail hack and my real name. They flagged me for one or the other or both.
Therefore the email address and persons name (First Name, Last Name) for each Topguest account should be different (just make up a bogus name) to avoid being flagged. You must use your real name on the United direct url for Topguest.
You can check-in to the same location every day however, to minimize the chance of being flagged I recommend you follow the directions in the post and setup separate Email, Foursquare and Topguest accounts. Check-in once a day at a spoofed location and alternate the spoofed location using auto4sq. It's a little more leg work but worth it IMO.
I'm not aware of any other partners other than those on the Topguest site and the United direct url
Hello Paddy,
I have set up 6 different emails, and foursquares, and topguest accounts and doing the auto check in every day now for each account. However, I am noticing I am only getting points each day for Priority Clubs rewards. The other ones only gave me the points for the first days (Friday) but nothing for Saturday or today (Sunday). Am I doing something wrong? The times of the check-ins are definitely separated by 1 day (24 hours).
Also, when you said "check-in once a day at a spoofed location and alternate the spoofed location using auto4sq", did you mean for the same account??? So for my foursquare account #1, I should change the auto-checkin location every week or so and not have it keep checking me in every day at say Newark Airport?
Paddy, for Wyndham, what would be the reason for using the ByRequest number?
I used the other Wyndham account number and the points posted fine. Should I have used the ByRequest number? And if so, should I create another TopGuest account and just use the ByRequest number of the same Wyndham account?
Thanks for sharing. Your blog is very helpful.
@ Brandon: Give it a few more days. Some of the points from check-ins can take a while to start posting regularly while the sign-up points tend to post immediately. United is fairly quick to post but I have had a delay of up to 5 days. If you don't see points posting after a week you may have missed a step so you will have to retrace your steps for the relevant reward partner
@ Brandon: when I said "check-in once a day at a spoofed location and alternate the spoofed location using auto4sq", I did mean for the same account and picking a Mon, Wed, Fri at e.g. Hilton location #1 and Sun, Tues, Thurs, Sat at e.g. Hilton location #2 - Also be sure to read todays update to the post about which Hilton property i.e. Doubletree etc
@ pcthanh2004: did you get points for the sign-up only or the check-in on day 2, 3 etc - I only got sign-up points and the check-ins never posted until I changed to the ByRequest #
Hi Paddy, thanks for all the help! One last question, do you know if we can get double the points by checking in using foursquare AND Facebook?? Or it's only foursquare OR Facebook?? I was thinking about trying to get 50 miles a day for my United account via foursquare and another 50 via my Facebook account, or would that be a bit much?
@ Brandon: It's one or the other and not both I believe although I have not tried
Hi,
Thanks for that.
To be clear 100%, after following your different recommendations and
steps as detailed in your different posts, including setting different
TopGuest/FourSquare/email accounts:
- With United, I only need to check-in into a particular airport once
a day to get the 50 points/miles bonus credited automatically to my
United account?
- With United, there is a limit of 50 points/miles per day per airport, correct?
- However, I can check in into two different airports on the same day,
for example SFO and LAX at different times, and get 2 x 50 points that
day, correct?
- I don't need to create separate United accounts and have sets of
TopGuest/FourSquare/United accounts associated with one unique email
address, correct?
- I not only need to check-in but also I need to share my location to
get the bonus from United, correct?
- With IHG/Hilton/Wyndham/Best Western/Voila/Club Hotel, I need to be
paying customer at a particular hotel on the day of the Foursquare
check-in, correct?
- Does that also work for hotels that run Foursquare promos from time
to time like SPG?
@LR
Q1 - With United, I only need to check-in into a particular airport once
a day to get the 50 points/miles bonus credited automatically to my
United account?
A1 - Yes - max once per 24 hours per United account
Q2 - With United, there is a limit of 50 points/miles per day per airport, correct?
A2 - not per airport - as above - max once per 24 hours per United account
Q3 - However, I can check in into two different airports on the same day,
for example SFO and LAX at different times, and get 2 x 50 points that
day, correct?
A3 - Nope - as above - max once per 24 hours per United account
Q4 - I don't need to create separate United accounts and have sets of
TopGuest/FourSquare/United accounts associated with one unique email
address, correct?
A4 - as above
Q5 - I not only need to check-in but also I need to share my location to
get the bonus from United, correct?
A5 - Check in on foursquare only
Q6 - With IHG/Hilton/Wyndham/Best Western/Voila/Club Hotel, I need to be
paying customer at a particular hotel on the day of the Foursquare
check-in, correct?
A6 - Absolutely not - Check in on foursquare only
Q7 - Does that also work for hotels that run Foursquare promos from time
to time like SPG?
A7 - depends on the promo
Thanks for the detailed replies above.
So the idea behind creating 6 sets of foursquare/topguest/email is so as not to get flagged by topguest, correct?
And the 100K is basically 50 points x 365 days x 6 partners (though there are 7 if you include United), correct?
Also the different hotel partners IHG/Hilton/Wyndham/Best Western/Voila similarly to United limit the bonus to 50 points a day no matter how many check-ins you do, correct?
Conceptually a legitimate customer could be check-in early morning say 1:00AM at a particular hotel upon arriving really late, and then again that same day in the evening say at 7PM in a different hotel, no?
Btw how do they handle the time difference between their different properties? The 24 hours period for United starts at midnight PST for example?
Wow, some of you guys really need your hand held. The hack is pretty clear.
@ Anony:
Q1: correct
Q2: correct
Q3: correct
Q4: Not sure what the tolerance level is within 24 hours
Q5: As above
Thanks for the different latest replies on your blog post.
For the auto-check-ins done through Auto4Sq.com to work, no need to be
logged into a particular m.foursquare.com account through a Google
Incognito tab, correct?
That would kind of defeat the purpose of Auto4Sq, no?
And make it difficult for scheduled auto-logins to occur using the
different sets of email addresses/foursquare/topguest for all 6 hotel
partners + United, no?
Thanks again for the hand holding :-)
@ LR: {sigh}... If you follow the steps I've outlined you do the setup steps once per loyalty account and then you do nothing but watch your points post on a daily basis - Rather than asking so many questions - why don't you try it with one account?
cannot get united to work. autosq says I have no check ins when I just did using mobile fs and changing location. any tips? all others are working fine so I don't see what I'm doing wrong. Is there something with topquest involved?
@ Anony: If Auto4Sq doesn't show your FS check-ins then you probably missed a step e.g. step 9 sync your 4S account with Auto4Sq - also did you confirm you FS account via email etc?
just tried to redo it for united. now mobile 4s won't allow me to change location. just stays where i'm actually at. have they caught on?
@ Anony: I am seeing the same issue i.e. m.foursquare.com won't allow you to change location as it used to - maybe a temporary glitch - lets wait a day and see
Is there a way to remove your loyalty #'s from Topguest if you already signed them all up under one account? So far I'm having no luck.
Hm, trying to set up this hack (thanks so much for your work figuring it out, btw!)
Seems like I've checked in with foursquare at an airport, and it even gave me my first set of points, but auto-4sq isn't seeing that I've checked in. Hope it's just a slight delay and I'll be able to setup the auto check-in later.
One question: would it be ok to put the United and one Topguest partner (Hilton) onto the same 4sq and email account? Not sure how far the separation between United and the other topguests go...
Thanks!
Hey i just found your blob after you interview on million mile secrets
and i love it. I have a question about the foursquare and topguest
hack. I accidentally gave top guest both my hilton number and priority
club number on one account, prior to your updated post saying to
create a seperate account for each reward. With this in mind, i can no
longer use my either my priorty club check in , or hilton on another
account becuase it says number is already in use. Do you know if there
is a way to get my priority club taken off of my account so i can use
it on another? Do you think it would be a dumb risk to auto checkin
with both my hilton and priority club on the same top guest account?
If you could let me know that would be great. Thanks.
@ Anony: to remove your loyalty #'s from Topguest - create a new loyalty # and replace the old one with the new one
@ Jay: Auto4Sq should recognize your foursquare check-in instantly - you've probably missed a step
United and Hilton on 1 a/c should be ok because United is separate
@JB: to remove your loyalty #'s from Topguest - create a new loyalty # and replace the old one with the new one
2 loyalty partners on 1 a/c risks attention but others have said no issue so YMMV
Hi Paddy,
I thought I missed something, but there's only one logon link (via foursquare) for auto4sq, so I'm sure it's linked.
I also see my old check-ins in the venue options, but not my latest. I've gotten an email that my latest checkin got points on TopGuest, and my foursquare profile shows me checked in at SFO...so I'm not sure what's up :(
@ Jay: Hmm... if you set-up a new foursquare a/c for this - did you validate the fs account via the email link - otherwise not sure what's going on - maybe a timing glitch - pls let us know if it rectifies itself or not
@ Paddy,
yup, validated the foursquare acct on email. If i just check my foursquare acct, I see my check ins just fine. Seems like topguest sees it to from the check-in pts that I've gotten just now.
Will check back with auto4sq later :) Hopefully it'll come back along with the m.foursquare.com change location function. Strange, it was ok just half an hour ago..
@ Jay: that is strange - also the foursquare "change location" has not been working for at least 24 hours so maybe big brother is watching..
Hello Paddy, thanks for the information, but I am having difficulty with the united step of the process. Nowhere in the united link am I able to provide my acc #, could you confirm the link has not changed since you posted?
@ G: looks like the original link which prompted for your United # is currently not working and is redirecting to topguest which as you can see doesn't have an option to enter your United #. This may be a temporary glitch or maybe permanent
Paddy- If i choose to earn airline miles from priority club, or any of the other hotel options here, any idea how long that takes for those points to deposit?
I set up my best western to earn us airways and my wynham to earn AA miles. My best western account has been receiving the points, so im not sure if i will have to manually transfer them to US Airways, or if there is a minimum point amount i have to reach before it transfers. As for Wyndham, my top guest account shows im getting the points, but they arent posting in either my AA account or wyndham account. Ill give it a couple more days.
@ Anony: It varies by loyalty partner - sometimes instant - sometimes 4-6 weeks
Any success with Choice Hotels (in most major US cities), Kimpton (in
San Francisco for example) and MGM (in Las Vegas) in a similar
fashion?
Btw not sure how to link up Topguest account with Kimpton and Choice Hotels as there doesn't seem to be an option within Topguest to do so, and I can't find a direct URL similarly to United
(http://mileageplus.topguest.com).
@ LR: Ignore those loyalty partners as they seem to be non-functional
See update in post above about United - you may have missed the boat :-(
All set for United.
My question was more along the line of is there a direct URL to register one's Kimpton and/or Choice Hotels loyalty program membership number with Topguest, similar to the URL that exists (or existed) for United?
@ LR: No direct / indirect link for those anymore
The points seemed to have stopped posting/accumulating for United for people who had already set up the hack weeks ago. Can you confirm this paddy??
@Anony: Alas, I have not seen United miles post since the 06/16
Same here...got 50 miles each day for like four days, and then no activity from the 16th onward.
Looks like the party is over. Thanks for sharing Paddy, and great while it lasted. :(
@ Bob: all good things... {sigh}
Likewise no UAL miles posting since 06/17. Have they pulled the program all together? Anybody still successfully getting miles posting when physically checking in at the airport?
@Anony: looks like United has been pulled altogether :-(
Hi Paddy, thanks for the great post! I been through the whole process and am up and running.
But im still not sure of the purpose of how to use the points, because as far as I am aware the 50 points from check in will go to individual hilton/united/priority accounts. SO I can't use all the points from 6 account together for a single stay. I was wondering what you think, or how you plan to use the points?
Mine stopped too. All good things do come to an end. Thanks.
@ Mike: you won't end up with points in one account but 50 points x 365 days = 18,250 per reward partner
X each family member = unlimited
yes you have to wait for the points to accumulate over time but then you can use the points via the specific reward partners e.g. for hotel stays / flights etc
@ Anony: where one door closes we just have to find another hack - oops I mean door ;-)
Bro first I would like to tell you that your blog is the best I've ever seen in my entire life, you are to be congratulatedGOOD I'M BRAZILIAN! my name is WILSONI would like to take some questions, if I'm wrong correct me OK?!1) I create DIFFERENT email accounts, 6 6 foursquare Account different and after I connect all with TOPGUEST. RIGHT?2) (gmail hack) it is a program or a trick? If a program pass me the link please. If it is a trick tell me of a way summed up please3) I making the combination of Gmail hack + foursquare + Top guest. I seem to get the 275 miles per day?Bro I'll be very grateful if you answer me
@Wilson: gmail hack is a trick and has a link in the post above - click it - use it for your foursquare accounts (optional) but not your topguest accounts
I using at least 6 accounts with the 6 connected with topguest and doing the combinations I get the 275 miles per day
@ Anony: Read the updates above - no longer works with United or Best Western
ok less Best Western or United I doing the right combinations I get the 275 miles per day?
yes
Thank you, Paddy for the hack! The Wyndham Rewards link isn't working. :(
@ Barack: Looks like they are no longer participating
I love seeing the Hilton and Priority Club points post automatically. Thanks again.
