I have a dream

Since I was a child, I've always had a vivid imagination. I know I have dreams but I rarely remember them. I envy the people who remember all their dreams. I remember as a teen having a dream that I could freeze people in their tracks by just pointing at them and when I awoke I was SO disappointed it wasn't reality.

I also dreamt about being able to fly and awoke equally disappointed to be wingless. Another dream was a semi sleep walk at 8 years of age where I was 'found' crawling around the bedroom floor at 4am muttering "I've lost my marbles" repeatedly - FYI - I still haven't found them! - but regular readers here probably already figured that out.

As a teen, whenever I was in a situation of stress or conflict, I would replay the scenario in my head hundreds of times over and over with what I could or should have done or said. Of course in my head, I always got the upper hand every time, albeit after the fact. I would come up with the wittiest retort or the wisest answer or sufficient violence to overcome an adversary, but all unfortunately too late for the LIVE act.

These days I still rarely remember dreams but am told I still talk, toss and turn in my sleep constantly. I still daydream 'silly' illogical stuff. I often wonder how much of our personality is shaped by childhood experiences and how much is just pure DNA.

What do you dream about?
Ever lost your marbles?

Same as you, I can hardly remember my dreams these years.

But I could remeber them quite clearly when I was a child. Most of my dreams then was about some stories in the movie I just saw.

My dreams are colorful, But a report said most people's dreams are black & white.

I doubt I ever had my marbles ;)
I rarely remember my dreams, but I toss and turn and they are vivid.
What makes me tick? Dunno.
But I know what you mean with a constant movie playing the same scenes in your head. Sometimes I just wanna bang my head to make it stop ;)

I usually remember my dreams.. Many a morning is started with the sentence 'Last night I dreamt that...'! (Cue rolled eyes from himself. I particularly love flying dreams.
But try taking 5HTP - It helps your body create melatonin and seratonin and makes you have very lucid dreams!
Last night I dreamt that there was a serial killer on the loose and we ('we' - don't remember who was with me) were hiding and moving house! - I completely put it down to watching CSI:Las Vegas immediately before going to bed!

Only occasionally remember my dreams. I've done a bit of sleepwalking in my time too. I've had recurring dreams of being naked in a public setting, or flying (usually it is essential not to think about the fact that I am flying, or it wont work anymore) or I'm at the airport and forgot my passport. Used to have a lot of zombie related dreams, but not so much now.

I think daydreaming is essential, I've been stressed lately and I'm putting that down to not enough daydreaming.

@ iWalk: Interesting - I think kids are better at remembering dreams but not sure why

@ Nicole: The replaying the scenes is so pointless but we seem to just keep doing it - head banging and all

@ Gwynaeth: I envy you being able to remember all the dreams - it seems like a waste to let all that brain activity go unremembered - better not watch a horror movie though!

@ Thrifty: I used to have a recurring dream about being on a motorbike and the paved road would gradually become a wet mud track - god only knows if there was some deeper meaning?

I can't remember my dreams for the most part. I'd wake up either in fear or happy but can't ever remember the details of the dreams.

If I had my marbles at some point I think I sold them for travels and pints a long time ago.

I've lost more than my marbles, but this usually occurs before sleeping, at some place other than my own.

I nearly always remember my dreams and most often I can actually follow a dream the next night right where I left off if I wish. Last night I was in the big car from "Love Shack" and with a bunch of friends at a water park and we were trying to find my snow ski gear. I know...it doesn't surprise you at all.

I dream that US President elect Obama is heavily involved in the Illinois governor scandal. I also dream that it is proven that Mr.B.O. is not a U.S. citizen and is not eligible to be the president of the U.S.

I wake up smiling and happy. Sure hope my dreams come true.

@ Jerry M: Absolutely - Bush was instrumental in getting us to this GREAT pinnacle of world prosperity and peace we currently stand on so why would we want change?

Bush for one or two more terms for sure - ah feck it - I'm sure we can change the constitution or something

- I waiting for the USA to invade North Korea, Iran and China so we can have Mc D's everywhere!

God bless trailer trash!

Where the f%$# did that clown come from? Oh yeah, probably from my great country.

Good lord!

@ TCL: He actually lives HERE! - Be afraid - BE VERY AFRAID!!!

I remember my dreams and most times I can 'control' the action in my dreams. They're in colour too. Often I'm driving a car full of children on precipitous cliffs, flying but I never quite get far above the treetops and threaten to tumble to earth. I also dream about the first house we bought . . a lot. . and I dream that Ray isn't really dead . .he just travels a lot and occasionally comes home . . needless to say, I'm not fond of those.

@ TCL: sold yer marbles - wise man!

@ Broke: sleeping around makes finding your marbles extra tricky!

@ VE: Now I know where the ideas from your blog posts comes from ;-)

@ Baino: Recurring dreams eh..not too fond of those myself - Flying seems to be a theme here

Nightmares. Nightmares galore.

Fida December 14, 2008 3:05 am

The hell with my dreams. I want IMAGINATION. I'd love to be imaginative - and darn, I am not. If one can't imagine things, one can't see them; ifone can't imagine words one can't write them...

Paddy in BA (Quickroute) December 14, 2008 9:51 am

@ Megan: ooh - don't like the sound of that

@ Fida: Oh come now - any body who has a blog has imagination!

Fida December 16, 2008 1:49 am

Oh, you are kind. I am just plain desperate!

Megan December 19, 2008 12:53 am

Yeh, it's not pleasant.

Linda S. Socha December 25, 2008 7:08 pm

Ah
The eternal question....nature vs nurture., Alas I do not have the answer either but I suspect...or like to believe...or have created a persona fantasy....that nurture can push the envelope in a tad of influence if the race if neck to neck.....But then I have always loved believing I could impact my environment...at least minimally?
Enjoyed your pose. Thank you
Linda
